Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada

Responsible for making  decisions on immigration and refugee matters, efficiently, fairly and in accordance with the law.

  • National Documentation Packages - contain a selection of documents on issues that are relevant to the determination of refugee protection claims. They report on country conditions such as political, social, cultural, economic, and human rights conditions.

BC211 provides refugee claimants with access to emergency assistance, information and referrals through a 24/7 multilingual phone line: 211

Inland Refugee Society of BC

Provides refugee claimants with essential services in British Columbia.

Kinbrace Refugee Housing and Support

Provides housing, orientation, accompaniment, and education for refugees and refugee claimants. 

Mennonite Central Committe Refugee and Newcomers Assistance Program

Works refugees and newcomers in the areas of sponsorship, family reunification, settlement, and integration into Canadian society. Refugee office in Vancouver that assists refugee claimants (asylum seekers already in Canada).

Rainbow Refugee Committee

Support and advocacy with Queer LGBT and/or HIV+ asylum seekers, refugee claimants and refugees in Canada.

Help to prepare for your refugee hearing in many languages.

Refugee Health Vancouver

Information on health care for refugees and refugee claimants.  Patient handouts in multiple languages. Direcotry of dentists, physiotherapists and other community resources who speak other languages, accept Interim Federal Health Plan patients or offer reduced fees.

Settlement Orientation Services (SOS)

Community-based organization that supports refugee claimants in navigating Canada’s refugee determination process and health promotion and case management services for refugee claimants, refugees and immigrants.

Vancouver Association for the Survivors of Torture

Promotes the human rights and mental health of refugees who arrive in British Columbia through trauma-focused psychological counselling and community-based psychosocial support for individuals and families, and promotes human rights through public education and advocacy campaigns on the rights of refugees and the prevention of torture.
