Canadian History

This guide introduces Library resources on Canadian history and provides more detail on special topics including the Great Depression, the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Louis Riel and the Fur Trade.

Introduction

The building of a railway linking eastern Canada and the westernmost province, B.C., was the biggest issue of its time. Work began in 1875 in Fort William, and was completed in 1885 in Craigellachie, B.C. This guide will help you find resources about the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in the Vancouver Public Library. Material on this subject can be found throughout the Central Library (350 West Georgia Street). Please ask the Information staff if you need help.
