This guide recommends reputable resources and strategies for accessing literature & literary criticism for novels, short stories, poetry, and plays - as well as biographical information on authors. In addition, it offers recommended leisure reading (both fiction & non-fiction) for a wealth of genres and topics selected by the VPL librarians.

Definition of Terms:

Literature - Bodies of work that are a subject of study or analysis - include novels, poetry, plays, drama, and short stories. Literary criticism is the study, evaluation and interpretation of literature.

Fiction- Literature in the form of prose, especially novels, that describe imaginary events and people.
