Adult Literacy Centres

Canucks Family Education Centre (CFEC)

A family literacy program that aims to get parents involved in their child’s learning and educational development. Frontier College provides tutors to assist adult learners with a variety of school subjects through small group tutoring, and to provide educational support and encouragement in an effort to improve literacy skills.

Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS)
Community Adult Literacy Program

The program is free and confidential and offers one-on-one tutoring to learners 19 years of age or older. Tutors and learners are paired and meet once a week for about two hours in a public place such as a library.

REACH Community Health Centre

A program for African and Middle Eastern women to practice English and work on a variety of issues, including health and literacy. REACH Community Health Centre offers information sessions and speakers on relevant topics, including those determined by the group. Onsite childcare is provided.

Vancouver Community College - Basic Education

Basic education courses are designed for adults who want to improve their reading, writing or math skills from beginner levels to the end of Grade 8. Students work together in small groups or in self-paced classes. VCC offers classes in the morning, afternoon and evening. VCC also offers computer literacy classes twice per week. To register for basic education, students must be 18 years or older and speak English comfortably.
