A music streaming database of more than 145,000 CD-length recordings. Includes the complete and selected recordings of over 375 independent labels such as: ARC, Berlin Classics, BIS, Chandos, CPO, Haenssler, Hungaroton, Marco Polo, Naïve, Naxos, Nimbus, Ondine and Vanguard Classics.

Searchable by: composer, artist, genre and label. The advanced search allows one to seach by playing time, year of composition, label, instrument, etc.

Naxos Music Library (Jazz) is a music streaming database with first-class performance and sound. It is an invaluable resource for jazz music enthusiasts with over 17,000 albums. New albums are added weekly. Naxos Jazz offers a mix of jazz legends and contemporary jazz with recordings of over 32,000 artists. The recordings come from over 200 labels, and include the catalogue of Blue Note Records, Warner Jazz, Emi, Fantasy and many more.

It’s easy to use but with a sophisticated search engine. Browse the library alphabetically by album title, use the keyword search with the name of artist, track, and album, or try an advanced search allows you to use a combination of criteria.

Naxos Music Library (World) is a music streaming database with first-class performances and sound. It is an invaluable resource for world music enthusiasts with over 13,000 albums. New material is frequently added. Naxos World spans the globe with a mix of traditional and more contemporary styles.

It’s easy to use but with a sophisticated search engine. Browse the library alphabetically by album title, use the keyword search with the name of artist, track, and album, or try an advanced search allows you to use a combination of criteria.

About the Apps

The Naxos Music Library apps allow you to stream music over your mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, etc. Enjoy easy access to over a million tracks, amounting to more than 7 years of continuous music. Create your own playlists and enjoy playlists created by others.

Note: Streaming music over your phone's cellular connection uses significant amounts of data. Depending on your data plan, this can result in usage fees. In order to avoid this, we recommend using a Wi-Fi network whenever possible.

Update: The new versions of the app allows you to download content for offline listening. Find what you'd like to download, tap the three dots to the right and you will be given the option to add it to your device. Downloaded tracks will be added to Offline Content which can be found in your Playlists. Content will remain up to 30 days on your device.

How to install the app

The Naxos Music Library apps work on both Android (v. 2.1 or later) and Apple (iOS 3.2.2 or later) devices.
Each of Naxos' streaming services has its own app. Keep this in mind when you're searching. And remember that each app needs to be authenticated separately.

How to use the apps

In order to make full use of the apps, you will first need to log into the corresponding Naxos service through our website and create a user account. (Note: If you bypass the VPL and go straight to a Naxos website, you will not be recognized as a VPL patron and will not have free access.) Once you have logged in, follow these steps to create your user account:

  1. Click on the tab labelled "Playlists.'
  2. Click on the 'Sign Up' link on the 'Student/Member Playlists' titlebar.
  3. Enter your email and create a password. (Later, you will use these to log into the app.)
  4. You be sent a confirmation email. Click on the enclosed link to activate your account.
  5. You are now able to create your own custom playlists, if you wish.
  6. Also, you can now use your email and password to log into the app.

The app will periodically prompt you to sign in through your institution to continue access. Log in to the appropriate Naxos service through our website. Once in, use the credentials created above to sign into "Playlists". This will reactivate your access to the app.

Note: Please note that under certain rare circumstances, it can take up to 15 minutes for your registration to be completed.
