Chinese-Canadian Genealogy

Resources for Canadians of Chinese origin who wish to learn more about their personal connection to Chinese-Canadian history.

The Territories - 199 - Assiniboia West

FILM NOTES

Due to the small number of Chinese residing in District 199 - Assiniboia West in 1891, the whole district is covered by the table below and the names of the Chinese individuals recorded in the census have been noted. Only census pages on which individuals born in China are listed have been noted.

The microfilm was not directly reviewed in order to collect this data. Reference was made to birthplace information recorded in the following nominal (name) index:

Assiniboia West: Index to the Census of Canada, 1891
Condon, Eileen P., ed.
Ref. 929.37124 C74i

It is possible that persons of Chinese ancestry born in Canada were also recorded in the Assiniboia West census, but their numbers seem likely to have been very limited, if any at all, given the early date and the extremely small numbers of Chinese in the district.
