ARCs are Advance Reader Copies of forthcoming (soon to be published) books. Librarians, teachers, booksellers, bloggers and now KIDS are able to read a book in advance of its official publication date, and are invited to write reviews. With our supply of ARC books, we have been encouraging our young readers to participate.
You can sign up for the ongoing ARC book club at the Children's Information Desk, Lower Level, Vancouver Public Library, Children's Library, 350 West Georgia St. Vancouver, BC. anytime during opening hours.
There are Advanced Reading Copy bookclubs at other branches across the city as well. Visit Kensington, Terry Salmon, and West Point Grey.

Starring Jules: As Herself
Ain, Beth Levine
"It was interesting, but I didn't like it as much as some other books. I would read more if there were more books in the series."
The Glitter Trap (Oh My Godmother)
The reviewer, M. age 11 had this to say about The Glitter Trap.
“I am in gr. 6 and I would freak if I saw a fairy. I don’t believe in them here it sounds like she kind of does. If Lacy dis-liked Paige so much why did she care if her wish didn’t come true? I love the word “trills” sounds cool! I love how it suddenly turned out she was bad!! It made me re-read, I was like “WHAT”!! Why isn’t her dad suspicious about fake sharks holding on to her leg? I love picturing this scene/part (pg111) I like the paragraph. It gives more character to the family.”
Another reviewer had this to say:
"When Lacey got mad about the dresses because she couldn't make it glittler I liked how she made it real and made rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. I thought that maybe they could talk more about Paige and her mom and how she was a geek at the old school."
What we Found in the Sofa and How it Saved the World
Review: "I liked this book, I give it a 9/10. Some parts didn’t excite me as much as other parts I thought it was funny and I liked the mystery parts. Some parts I didn’t understand."
The Fellowship for Alien Detection
"This is a good book. The first part was very exciting and interesting. However I found the second part a bit confusing and morbid."
Naples! #1 Recipe for Adventure
De Laurentiis, Giada (Author), Gambatesa, Francesca (Illistrator)
"I think there are a lot of italian words and it hard to pronounce it"
Words With Wings
"Words With Wings poems were very good and they made me smile. I liked when she went to the ballet with her dad. I liked how the class would daydream and write it down and I love how she found a friend. I really liked her dad. He was my favourite character. This book was really good."
The Neptune Project
"Great book! I really liked it, the dangers were realistic and the death were not too sad. But I have two questions why didn’t dai come back and can you give a bit of his background? Thank you! It was a great book!!"
Kiki: My Stylish Life
"I love this book! I can’t wait to read more. 10/10. I liked that it was about a kid."
“I love the short sentences that replace long paragraphs. Because the story was short it was not too hard to predict the end (That is if I stop reading for a moment and think it over). Great overall read” Age 13
Whatever After #2: If the Shoe Fits
"Amazing! Wow! My faivirit part was… when cinddrella said no to two friends."
Lincoln's Grave Robbers
"That book was good. It just needs pictures. It was a good idea to write that Lewis Swegles he could not stay clean."
“Very good, feels very realistic gives good insight into period without being overly depressing for kids.”
“This book was a great read. Especially with mentioning the day-to-day events while keeping the reader entertained. Even though the story was similar to many it still felt new and exciting”
Penelope Crumb Finds Her Luck
Stout, Shawn and Docampo, Valeria
“”Penelope Crumb Finder Her Luck” was very funny. It really reminded me of JUnie B. Jones. The dialogue was AWESOME! It was funny and a real enjoyment. I wish they introduced Little Maple a bit more and same with Terrance, her brother. My favourite part was when she wouldn’t call anyone the O word (OLD). My favourite character was definitely her grandpa. I hope there will be a second and introduce that girl Terrance was with.”
Ready to Wear
"I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I really liked it because I know how to sew and it helps me think good things about my sewing. I can't wait to read more books in this series!"
